ThunderCats preview: The Trials of Lion-O, Part 2

Classic Dungeons & Dragons back in print! - Available now @ Dungeon Masters Guild

Warner Bros.’ ThunderCats reboot on Cartoon Network may have been shifted to Saturday mornings for its second season and may or may not have the brightest outlook — which is a shame because the animation (though very different from the original) is very good and storytelling excellent.

Regardless of their future, the Cats are here for the moment, and in the midst of an epic two-parter that continues Saturday with “The Trials of Lion-O, Part 2.” As with the entire series so far, it’s a callback to the original 1980s multipart story in which the young leader had to face each of his staunchest allies in single combat — but this time there’s a twist, and even more at stake than before. This builds on the new series’ focus on the moral lessons Lion-O must learn in his journey to becoming king — something I wrote about in a report I did for Wired magazine’s GeekDad blog last year.

Check out some stills and two clips from Saturday’s new episode below.

  • I use to sit down with my kids when they were young and watch the old one with them. The new version has a good story line. I would like to see Lion o have a love. Now that in the new one cheetara is in love with tygra. I still watch the show with my youngest son every once in a while.
