Star Trek: Discovery castThe first three cast members of Star Trek: Discovery have been officially announced.

Doug Jones will play Starfleet Lt. Saru, a “science officer and an alien species new to the Star Trek universe,” according to StarTrek.com. He has credits playing creatures in Hellboy (as Abe Sapien), Pan’s Labyrinth, Legion, The Strain and Buffy the Vampire Slayer (as the creepy Lead Gentleman).

Michelle Yeoh, as previously leaked, plays a Starfleet captain. Her character is named Georgiou, and is the commanding officer of the starship Shenzhou. She’s probably best known for her kick-ass roles in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and the Pierce Brosnan James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies.

Anthony Rapp plays another science officer, the fungus expert (“astromycologist) Lt. Stamets. He’s appeared in films such as School Ties, A Beautiful Mind and Rent, and is perhaps best known for appearing on Broadway in Rent as well as other productions.

Discovery launches in May on CBS All Access after premiering on CBS.
