Remember when now-former Doctor Who star David Tennant (pictured) took a break from the hit British sci-fi series to indulge his love for the Bard with the Royal Shakespeare Company’s 2008 production of Hamlet?
Well, the play’s the thing tonight as the TV adaptation of that staging of Hamlet on Great Performances, 8 p.m. Arizona time on KAET Channel 8, the Valley’s PBS station. An encore presentation will air 1:30 a.m. Sunday, and after the broadcast it will also be available online.
This version of Hamlet is set in the “modern” world, but it’s pure Shakespeare. Critics loved Tennant in the title role, and the production also included Star Trek: The Next Generation star Patrick Stewart as Claudius and Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace fussbudget Oliver Ford Davies as Polonius.
