PHOENIX – Say “hi” to high schooler Patty, the main character in Netflix’s latest series, Insatiable.
Her goal is simple: she’s after revenge. After years of bullying and life’s unexpected obstacles, she has one mission and one mission only: payback.
Insatiable is a dark comedy starring Debby Ryan as a teenage girl on the road to revenge. For years, Patty endured endless bullying because of her weight. After getting punched in the face one night, she spends her summer with her jaw wired shut. Patty undergoes a physical transformation, and when back-to-school season rolls around, everyone is notably shook. Patty’s only goal is to get revenge on everyone that bullied her.
The show hasn’t even aired yet, and it’s already problematic. Social media was quick to accuse the new series of “fat-shaming.”
Hey @netflix, since it looks like you forgot how to make content like decent human beings, here's a list of Bad Ideas.
-thin actresses in fat suits
-character losing weight so people like/are attracted to them
-the above working
-making fatphobic crap at all. #Insatiable— Thots and Prayers (@_meIodrama_) July 20, 2018
Listen @netflix We really don't need a film with fat people being shamed and then losing weight against their will, becoming popular and then taking revenge on everyone who didn't like her before that. Fat people are more than comic relief and villains / anti-heroes. #Insatiable
