Green Arrow joins ‘Smallville’ main cast

Television

1justinhartley.jpgThe CW’s Smallville has lost two of its biggest stars going into season eight — Michael Rosembaum as Lex Luthor and Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lang — and the freakishly hot Laura Vandervoort (Kara Zor-El/Kent) has been downgraded from series regular to recurring character. But it’s about to get a shot in the arm to both up its hero quotient and keep the billionaire playboy theme going strong.

E! Online reports that Justin Hartley, aka Oliver Queen/the Green Arrow, is going full time. This should keep some aspect of the Veritas storyline alive — that’s the secret society to which Lex’s and Oliver’s parents belonged, formed to control “the Traveler,” aka Clark Kent (Tom Welling).

When we last left Clark, he was buried in the collapsing Fortress of Solitude after Lex discovered his identity as the Traveler and fulfilled his “birthright” by neutralizing him for the good of all mankind. Maybe it will take another son of Veritas to come to Clark’s rescue this time?

Here and there ...

  1. Green Arrow’s permanent addition to the cast gives me comfort about next season, which surely has to be the last. I have no idea how the writers can get Clark out of that season ender alive and well without a heck of a plot twist. But Superboy has to live to be Superman. Hartley was marvelous as Green Arrow. I hope this means some more JLA opportunities this season, which AGAIN I hope is the last and the best! This show deserves a great sendoff!
