Dracula is bringing his Curse back to Netflix in Season 2 of Castlevania
Listen to this story here:
The evil Count Dracula is at it again on Netflix. Old Dracula is coming back with a vengeance soon, we’re told, and I can’t wait to see how the story plays out. Dracula already demonstrated his monstrous abilities to great effect in the first four episodes, so I can only assume (hope) there’s more to come.
Don’t let us down, Dracula.
The first season of the Netflix Original Series Castlevania was great, if too brief. I enjoyed the voice acting, the Dracula’s Curse-inspired plot, the soundtrack and animation. It was one of the only series’ I’ve binge-watched in my entire life — I’m a notoriously slow television watcher — and it was worth every minute of uninterrupted, eyes-on-the-television viewing. We reviewed the series right here on Nerdvana shortly after it aired.
We love Castlevania around here. I wrote an eight-part retrospective of the series last year and I’m currently 80 percent through a run of Circle of the Moon. Recently, Game Informer reported the return of the series for a second season. I enjoyed the humanization and character arc of Dracula — he’s not just the BIG BAD EVIL GUY, you know — and I hope the next season continues showing the evolution of the character. A bit more development for Trevor and Sypha’s relationship may provide interesting, and I’m curious about Alucard’s role in the new season. To say I’m looking forward to it is an understatement.
Warren Ellis, the series writer, confirmed the show will be returning to Netflix this summer for eight episodes. No other information is available at this time. It will be interesting to see how the series continues the story of Dracula’s Curse and whether we’ll see one of my favorite characters from the game, Grant DaNasty. If so, I’d like to see how the character will be introduced. Will he be some sort of cursed creature, brought back to the land of the living by Trevor Belmont? Will there be a clock tower (as a fan, I hope there’s a clock tower)? What about a pirate ship? Will his design be the classic, pirate design or the weird mummy-thing from Castlevania Judgement? Or something else entirely? The possibilities are endless.
Of course, there really is no need for Grant to make an appearance in the series—the first season was fine without him. His presence may even have derailed the plot in the first season. I suppose we’ll find out this summer. Until then, I’ll be playing and writing about Castlevania as often as possible. What do you think about the announcement of the new season? Will you be watching? Do you want to see Grant Danasty in the new season — or is he best left to his watery grave? Let us know in the comments.
Thanks for tuning in and we’ll see you next time on Nerdvana. Helping you feed your inner geek since 2007.
Watch out for some Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse gameplay, coming soon!
