Doctor Who series 1-8

As we learned last month, Doctor Who will soon be available again for streaming this month when series 1-8 of the reboot comes to Amazon Video. Today we have a date for the show’s debut on that platform: March 27, Easter Sunday. The BBC’s new distribution deal with Amazon is described as multiyear and exclusive. (The series recently left Netflix and Hulu due to contract limitations.)

Now also comes word that 2015’s Series 9 will join the Amazon Video lineup on Sept. 6, and the 2015 Christmas special “The Husbands of River Song” will follow on Sept. 25. Home video collectors can get both much sooner — April 5, when Doctor Who: The Complete Series 9 arrives on Blu-ray and DVD.

Fans will have to make due with their own collections as well as these releases — remember, there will be no new Doctor Who in 2016 until the next Christmas special.
