Christmas creeping up too early? Humbug! Not when it comes to our first clip from the Doctor Who Christmas special, “The Return of Doctor Mysterio” — our first new episode in a whole bloody year!

The Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi, teams up with an investigative journalist, played by Charity Wakefield (Wolf Hall, The Player) and a superhero to save New York from a deadly alien threat. Matt Lucas (Bridesmaids, Little Britain) returns to the series as Nardole and Justin Chatwin (Orphan Black, Shameless) joins the cast in a guest starring role as Grant.

The special is written by Steven Moffat, executive produced by Brian Minchin, produced by Peter Bennett and directed by Ed Bazalgette (Poldark). It was shot in Cardiff at BBC Wales Roath Lock Studios.

The new season of Doctor Who will premiere alongside the Doctor Who spin-off Class in Spring 2017 on BBC AMERICA.

If Dec. 25 is too long to wait for new Who, how about some old, and how about this weekend? The Second Doctor’s lost first adventure, “Power of the Daleks,” has been restored through the magic of animation, and will hit TV screens nearly 50 years after its debut this Saturday night on BBC America.
