Adam West, who found massive fame as TV’s Caped Crusader in the campy 1960s Batman series — and found it again years later in ironic animation voice-over roles — has died. He was 88.

The actor succumbed Friday night to leukemia.

In addition to Batman, West recently found a home in Quahog as the nutty town mayor on Family Guy. He also recently returned to his iconic hero role in the animated Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders alongside original co-stars Burt Ward as Robin and Julie Newmar as Catwoman.

Adam West’s family issues statement:

“Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans’ lives. He was and always will be our hero.”

Farewell, old chum!
