An upcoming Amazon series will chronicle adventures in Middle-earth before the events of The Lord of the Rings.
The third movie in the “Hobbit” trilogy, titled “There and Back Again,” has changed from a summer 2014 blockbuster to a holiday release.
“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” will be released on Blu-ray and DVD March 19. Digital platforms will make the film available for paid download March 12.
Howard Shore’s music is part of what made the Lord of the Rings movies so magical. Of course he’s returning for The Hobbit, and you can check out a portion of the new soundtrack below and listen to the full thing over at Empire.
“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” hits movie screens on Dec. 14, and advance tickets are now on sale at your local theater; but you’ll want to be sure to weigh your viewing options before you snag your opening day passes or you might miss out on seeing the movie in its optimum format.

Today Warner Bros. Pictures, New Line Cinema and MGM celebrated Tolkien Week (and the Sept. 22 Hobbit Day, the birthday of halfling heroes Bilbo and Frodo Baggins) by releasing the new trailer for “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” the first installment of a trilogy based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s children’s fantasy classic that debuts in theaters Dec. 14.
