Dead Media: The Twelfth Doctor as a podcaster?

Books Sci-Fi/Fantasy Technology Television

An upcoming set of Doctor Who audio adventures featuring the Twelfth Doctor — as played by impressionist actor Jacob Dudman, not TV star Peter Capaldi — will see the titular Time Lord behind the microphone of a podcast.

It’s not a full-cast audio drama like Big Finish is widely known for, but more along the lines of a narrated audiobook. Here’s a description of the installment, titled “Dead Media,” from Big Finish Productions, coming in September as part of the “Short Trips” series.

Like everyone else in 2018, the Doctor is doing a podcast.

Named the ‘People of St Lukes’, the podcast is about the everyday lives of students at the university. Only, with the Doctor involved, the everyday is dangerous and extraordinary.

Something’s lurking in the A/V department, something that is trapped in old equipment… as the Doctor quickly discovers, outdated technology does have a role in the modern world.

That role? Ending it.

Correction

An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated “Dead Media” was releasing in February 2020 as part of the “Twelfth Doctor Chronicles” series.
