The TRON: Uprising prelude “Beck’s Beginning” has hit the Web, but it’s worth noting that the 30-minute episode will also be aired 9:30 p.m. Eastern and Pacific this Friday, May 18, on Disney XD, where the series will live when it officially launches June 7 at 9 p.m.
The series stars the voice work of original TRON icon Bruce Boxleitner (pictured above) as well as Elijah Wood, Mandy Moore, Tricia Helfer, Lance Henriksen, Paul Reubens (yes, really) and more. I found “Beck’s Beginning” an impressive beginning indeed and I’m looking forward to more. The visual style is striking and doesn’t reek of CGI, in fact it reminds me a lot in visual tone of the 1990s’ Batman: The Animated Series and the storytelling and themes, with the interplay between Beck and Tron, hearken back to the later Batman Begins.
A press junket that included a screening and reception was held earlier this week in California at the DisneyToon studios. Some more photos from the event are attached below, as well as the prelude itself.

Beck is a young mechanic living in Argon City, a growing metropolis in a far off corner of the grid that has just been occupied by General Tesler, a henchman of the notorious Clu. After his best friend Bodhi is ruthlessly derezzed by Clu’s army, Beck seeks justice for his lost friend and launches a crusade against the regime. His rebellion captures the attention of Tron, the greatest warrior The Grid has ever known, who sees the potential in Beck and trains him to be his successor. Labeled with the moniker of The Renegade, Beck sparks a revolution to fight for the freedom of The Grid.
