Toy Anxiety, a collectors’ toy store at 32nd Street and Thunderbird Road in Phoenix, holds a collection drive each December to gather new toys, books and movies for needy kids, especially those in local children’s hospitals. They’ll kick off this year’s effort with a sidewalk sale 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 6) at their store, 13825 N. 32nd St., Suite 15.
The sidewalk sale will consist of highly discounted items, including carded Star Wars action figures — but donating a new toy gets you access to a storewide sale with discounts of 20% to 75%. There will also be snacks and beverages.
Joining the cause again this year is the Star Wars fan and costuming club Arizona 501st Dune Sea Garrison in their various costumes, which often include stormtroopers, sandtroopers and clone troopers.
The group routinely takes part in charitable events and visits children’s hospitals throughout the state and never fails to impress (Lord Vader wouldn’t hear of it).
Also set to appear are the AZ Ghostbusters (in case any Jedi spirits get out of line).
All donations must be in their original, sealed packages — used items won’t be accepted. Cash is welcome and will be used to purchase items needed for specific ages and genders.
