Syfy has shifted gears with its Battlestar Galactica spinoff Caprica, launching the second half of the inaugural season Oct. 5 instead of waiting until January.

Had the remaining episodes not aired until 2011, the decision whether to greenlight a second season for the sci-fi drama would have been based solely on DVD sales. The first 10 episodes are set to hit DVD store shelves on the day the next batch of episodes will now air on television.

Caprica will follow Stargate Universe on Tuesday nights.
