NBC Universal wants you to know that their new sci-fi news blog Sci Fi Wire is a rousing success. The standalone site is an outgrowth of a daily entertainment news site that used to be hosted on the Sci Fi Channel’s server at scifi.com/scifiwire but now has its own address — www.scifiwire.com — and has been redesigned as a blog. New York, NY – January 13, 2009 – SCI FI Wire, the premiere source for fast-breaking entertainment news related to science fiction, fantasy and horror, launched on January 5 and delivered nearly a million page views in its first week, SCI FI Wire’s best week ever. The popular daily entertainment news site also earned 133,000 in video streams and 274,000 unique users setting record highs. Rapid growth in traffic and ad sales propelled the relaunch SCI FI Wire as its own site, which includes a new logo and redesigned homepage.

This week on SC FI Wire users will be able to watch a clip from the new original dramedy series Warehouse 13, coming to the Channel this summer and starring Eddie McClintock, Joanne Kelly and Saul Rubinek and get upcoming news about ABC’s Lost and Cupid, NBC’s Heroes and Fox’s new television series Dollhouse.

SCI FI Wire is the third new stand-alone site launched by SCI FI in the past year and continues the brand’s portfolio strategy into the areas of technology, entertainment and gaming. The site covers a broad range of entertainment including science fiction/fantasy, movies, television, books and games. In November 2007, SCI FI unveiled the technology site DVICE.COM, which has since become a Top 100 blog with nearly 650,000 unique visitors each month. In 2008, SCI FI also launched the game site FIDGIT.com and its popular Game Center, which features casual games based on SCI FI properties that link registered players together using social networking features.

Launched in 1997, SCI FI Wire started with a few news updates and then grew into a stand-alone sub-section featuring original content. It now has nearly half a million readers and serves millions of page views each month.

SCIFI.COM is the world’s largest sci-fi entertainment Web site with more than 3.5 million unique visitors each month. Its award-winning original content ranges from a daily entertainment news service, SCI FI Wire, to full episodes of hit TV shows like Battlestar Galactica and Ghost Hunters.
