Reaction to death of space artist Robert McCall

Robert McCallThe Challenger Space Center in Peoria has issued a statement on the passing of renowned space artist and Arizona resident Robert McCall, reported here Sunday:

“We at the Challenger Space Center Arizona were saddened to hear of the passing on Friday, Feb. 26 of Robert T. McCall, one of America’s greatest artists. We are honored and forever grateful that he gave his time and talents to the Challenger Space Center/Arizona, so that children of all ages can be encouraged to dream. Mr. McCall’s passion for his work and the education of future generations will continue to be an integral part of our mission. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends in this time of need.”

McCall’s “Tour of the Universe” mural in the space center’s rotunda stands six stories tall and covers 27,000 square feet. It took six months for the artist to complete and is sometimes called the largest mural in Arizona.
