The Disney theme parks are bustling with more out-of-this-world activity as 14-acre “Star Wars lands” take shape at California’s Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World in Florida.
In this very brief preview video, you can see the titanic frames of life-size Imperial All-Terrain Armored Transports (AT-AT) walkers going up in Anaheim; similar work is underway at the Orlando counterpart (where at least a partial AT-AT already looms over guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and has done for some time).
According to the Disney Parks Blog, “these two new immersive lands will transport guests to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port and one of the last stops before wild space where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life and where guests will find themselves in the middle of the action.”
Other signature attractions will include “one that lets guests take the controls of Millennium Falcon on a customized secret mission, and an epic Star Wars adventure that puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”
These new attractions won’t be ready until 2019, so we won’t see them when we visit Orlando next month for Star Wars Celebration. But I’m sure there will be plenty to keep us occupied …
