Has the next Doctor found his assistant?

It’s rumored that young British actress Hannah Murray will join Matt Smith in the TARDIS when he takes over for David Tennant next year as the star of Doctor Who.

The BBC recently reported that Scottish actress Lindsay Duncan would join Tennant in an upcoming special while the long-running British sci-fi series is on break from a full season. For all but one year since Doctor Who’s return in 2005 there has been a Christmas special; this year will see an Easter special and two other, undated productions before Tennant surrenders the role.

It’s not unusual for the character of the Doctor to be joined by temporary companions in these specials, which usually stand alone more than the regular series’ episodes — so it’s unlikely that Duncan, more than 40 years Smith’s senior — would be hired on as a full-time co-star.
