David Tennant may be best known in America for his recent stint as an immortal Time Lord on Doctor Who, but lately he’s been making waves in front of BBC American audiences as police detective inspector Alec Hardy on Broadchurch, a heartrending drama about a community shattered by a child’s murder. Now Entertainment Weekly reports that the actor will effectively play the same character on Fox’s upcoming remake of the gripping serial.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it — right? Along the same lines, Tennant is reprising his Doctor Who character for that series’ 50th anniversary special, “The Day of the Doctor,” on Nov. 23, opposite his successor Matt Smith, who himself is preparing to hand the role to a new generation at Christmas.
The Nov. 23 special, it was recently revealed, will be simulcast across the globe — a first for Doctor Who, which only recently started same-day airing across the pond.
