Last Saturday (May 7, 2016) was the comic-geek holiday known as “Free Comic Book Day,” an annual sequential art celebration that typically has fans lining up early to capture some pop culture swag on their way out to see the latest comic-inspired superhero flick on the big screen (in this year’s case it was Captain America: Civil War.)
We scoured the Valley’s comic book shops in search of the elusive “Captain America #1 FCBD 2016 Edition” book that has Steve Rogers returning as the Star-spangled Avenger; but alas, those dedicated Cap fans who were out by the dawn’s early light snagged every dang copy and all that we can proudly hail are these fun FCBD photos. Enjoy!
They say you don’t tug on Superman’s cape; but Thor is okay with it…right? RIGHT???
Glendale’s Drawn to Comics once again had a huge FCBD shindig this year that expanded into the neighboring American Legion Earl E. Mitchell Post #29, because nothing is more patriotic than attending Free Comic Book Day (well…except serving in the military in a foreign war, of course, and then FCBD!)
These guys have the right idea: 1) Pick up free comics at FCBD; 2) Immediately park your butt on the nearest bench; 3) Begin reading your awesome free swag; 4) …that is all.
When there are comics there is usually Amazing Arizona Comics’ creator, Russ Kazmierczak, providing free sketches for the kids.
