If you thought a musical based on your friendly neighborhood web-slinger was too good to be true — you may yet be right.

“Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark,” a lavish Broadway-bound musical directed by Julie Taymor (“The Lion King”) and scored by U2’s Bono and The Edge, seems to be caught in a sudden web of financial difficulties. Work has been suspended until cash can begin flowing again.
Previews were set to begin in Feburary, with Evan Rachel Wood as Mary Jane Watson and Alan Cumming as Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin.
Casting for Spidey himself hasn’t been announced.
