What do Superman, Heavy Metal, playing the didgeridoo and The Monkees have in common? If you’re thinking it’s that lost episode where Micky, Mike, Peter and Davy stumble onto some Kryptonite while touring Australia, well, not quite; but if you guessed the inaugural edition of Ignite Phoenix Music then you’re singing the right tune.
This Friday evening, Oct. 28, 18 different Phoenix residents will be talking about their passion for music in the five-minute/20-slide Ignite format that has become a cultural phenomenon in the Valley of the Sun.
Ignite Phoenix, its amazing array of presenters and its team of volunteer professionals have been wowing valley residents since 2008, with 18 full shows now under their belt. They have also expanded into thematic events such as Ignite Phoenix After Hours, for more adult-themed presentations, and Ignite Phoenix Food, a more edible edition.
The latest offshoot of the show is this Friday’s Ignite Phoenix Music, where presenters will be talking everything from the struggles of the modern day symphony (by Drex Davis) to the craziness of Korean music (by Stephanie Munoz) and how to design the perfect mixtape (by Mandi Kimes).

Two Nerdvana contributors will also be sharing their eccentric passions for pop music and pop culture, with Russ Kazmierczak Jr. talking about his love for everything Monkees, and Bob Leeper discussing Superman’s influence on popular music.
