The teaser trailer for Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi was revealed Friday morning to thunderous applause at Star Wars Celebration Orlando.

In a panel moderated by Josh Gad, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was joined by The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson as well as surprise guests Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Saga newcomer Kelly Marie Tran, whose character was at last revealed to be a Resistance member named Rose.
The trailer debuted following the unveiling of the film’s first poster, a striking image featuring Skywalker and his fallen apprentice, Kylo Ren, once Ben Solo, divided by lightsaber blades of red and blue, emitted from the weapon of Rey taking a stance similar to the iconic Luke Skywalker depiction in old movie posters for the original Star Wars.
In the trailer, we see Rey’s training under Luke on the watery world of his self-imposed exile, intercut seemingly with visions of the conflict tearing the galaxy apart: among them, General Leia Organa and her Resistance, Ren’s damaged mask, a conflict on a craggy, barren world between flying craft and walkers, a space battle with the First Order, and much more.
The trailer and official artwork revealed Friday provide much to ponder. The long march to Dec. 15 has officially begun…
