CBS Films and Lionsgate announced on Friday that the big-screen adaptation of the classic children’s horror anthology Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark will officially release in theaters Aug. 9, 2019.

The story follows a group of young teens who must solve the mystery surrounding sudden and macabre deaths in their small town.

Written and produced by Guillermo del Toro and directed by Norwegian filmmaker André Øvredal (Trollhunter/Troll Hunter), the movie stars Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Gabriel Rush, Austin Abrams, Dean Norris, Gil Bellows, Lorraine Toussaint, Austin Zajur, Natalie Ganzhorn.

You don’t have to be a kid to enjoy (or fear) the classic Alvin Schwartz folklore from which the film will draw inspiration. If you’ve never experienced Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, you can order the box set and support our site here: (affiliate product link)
