PHOENIX – Scarlett Johansson landed a $15 million salary for her work in the upcoming Marvel movie centered around her character, Black Widow.

The actress has already starred in six Marvel movies as the beloved heroine but received less for her involvement in those movies than Chris Evans as Captain America or Chris Hemsworth as Thor. According to a statement by The Hollywood Reporter, Johansson will be receiving an equivalent salary for this movie as Hemsworth and Evans were paid in their previous solo Marvel films as well as Avengers: Infinity War.

The announcement also fits nicely with the national holiday it fell around. Oct. 11 is “National Day of the Girl” and we all definitely have something to celebrate.

For Johansson’s first appearance in Iron Man 2 as the Black Widow, the actress pulled a seven-figure salary, in comparison to Robert Downey Jr.’s $50 million.

Not all Marvel characters, even men, have been paid as much as the male solo heroes are making for their recent films. Robert Downey Jr. reportedly only received $500,000 for his work in the first Iron Man film. Chadwick Boseman started his Marvel career with somewhere around $2 million for Black Panther. This was more than Downey started out with but less than the whopping $15 million Evans has been making for his appearances.

With each Marvel movie making well over $1 billion, it is no surprise the budget for the talent has gone up a bit since the beginning.

Marvel studios has disputed the accuracy of these numbers but THR states they were confirmed multiple times by “knowledgeable sources.”

The highly-anticipated Black Widow movie is still in early development and has not yet announced a release date.
