It was inevitable that after making a 50 million dollar profit on a 5.5 million dollar budget that Hollywood was going to greenlight a sequel to 2017’s 47 Meters Down, and in 2019, get ready to break all the rules of SCUBA diving again in 47 Meters Down: The Next Chapter. We don’t know much about the sequel, with this being the only information released by Entertainment Studios:
Entertainment Studios has released a new teaser for 47 METERS DOWN: THE NEXT CHAPTER, the sequel to the monster hit from last year that took a bite out of the independent box office. Johannes Roberts returns to the shark-infested waters as director.
47 METERS DOWN: THE NEXT CHAPTER will open in theaters June 2019.
You may recall, I had some problems with the original movie (seriously, bars?!?! Who measures pressure in bars?!?!), but I’m not gonna lie, I’m interested in where they take the premise (maybe it’ll just be 2 hours of people filing lawsuits against Matthew Modine’s Captain Taylor” character). According to ScreenRant: “The sequel will take place in Brazil and center around a group of young women who decide to explore some hidden underwater ruins located off-the-beaten trail.” Of course, that was from September of 2017, so take that with massive grains of salt.
Here’s the trailer (which seems to be leaning on the previous movie’s locale and premise), so we’ll see as we get closer to the release!
