J.J. Abrams’ efforts to revive the Star Trek movie franchise appear to have paid off: More than a month before his reboot/remake/prequel is due to open in theaters, a sequel has already been green-lit.
Variety reports that a script should be completed around Christmas for a summer 2011 theatrical release. It will be penned by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, the writing team behind the May 8 film, along with Lost producer Damon Lindelof.
