More ‘Trek’ casting news

Movies Sci-Fi/Fantasy

We have our Kirk, Spock, McCoy, et al, but it looks like J.J. Abrams’ Christmas 2008 reboot of the Star Trek franchise will delve deeper into Trek lore than Trekkers dared to hope.

Winona Ryder will play Amanda, Spock’s human mother, and Bruce Greenwood will play Christopher Pike, who fans will tell you was the Enterprise’s skipper before Capt. Kirk.

Amanda Wyatt was portrayed in the ’60s series and the movie Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home by “Father Knows Best” matriarch Jane Wyatt. Pike was played by Jeffrey Hunter in the original series pilot The Cage, which was later recycled into a two-part episode called (oddly enough) The Menagerie.

Let’s hope Spock’s mother doesn’t have any problems with shoplifting in this version.
