Meryl Streep to play General Leia? Yeah, no.

PHOENIX – To the people who want Meryl Streep to take over the role of General Leia — NO! Just no.

More than 10,000 Star Wars fans (if you can call them that) have signed a petition to recast Carrie Fisher’s iconic role for the upcoming Episode IX.

Thankfully, one very important person is on the “no” side with us.

Mark Hamill (a.k.a. Luke Skywalker) told Collider that it’s a tough situation, but “she’s irreplaceable as far as I’m concerned.”

Let’s get geeky for a sec.

It was basically assumed, Hamill explains, that Leia would have a more prominent role in IX. Han had VII. Luke had VIII. So naturally, it was Leia’s turn (because women always go last. Amirite?!) To top it off, she’s got that whole thing with Kylo Ren being her son and all.

We get it. But it’s still a no.
