The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog tells us that Star Wars creator George Lucas is cooking up a CGI animated fantasy musical at his Skywalker Ranch. The untitled film, which is said to feature fairies, will be directed by Kevin Munroe (TMNT) and written by David Berenbaum (Elf, The Spiderwick Chronicles screenplay).
Could Lucas be looking to return to the world of Willow, the Tolkienesque 1998 fantasy starring Warwick Davis (pictured) and Val Kilmer that, some say, Lucas wrote because he couldn’t get the rights to adapt J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth stories?
That film was directed by Ron Howard, and was a turning point in computer morphing techniques with a program created by Lucas’ Industrial Light & Magic company.
In the late 1990s, Lucas outlined a story for a Willow sequel that was turned into a trilogy of novels by comic book writer Chris Claremont: Chronicles of the Shadow War.
