Rumors have been buzzing for months about Kylo Ren’s ship appearing in Star Wars: Episode VIII — The Last Jedi. Today, Ren’s ride was revealed on the Emmy-nominated Star Wars Show.
The “Sienar Jaemus TIE/VN Space Superiority Fighter,” aka TIE Silencer, “is an angular fighter equipped with laster cannons and missile launchers,” according to StarWars.com’s Databank. “Ren is an expert pilot — thanks to skills passed down from his father — which he puts to use in exploiting his ship’s speed and ferocity. There is no other First Order craft like the TIE silencer, and it is an effective tool in Ren’s mission to destroy the Resistance.”
The same Databank entry says the distinctive new ship’s design channels the Empire’s TIE Interceptor as well as Darth Vader’s TIE Advanced — but, if you ask me, it also has some of Darth Maul’s prequel-era Sith Interceptor in its DNA … will it also have a cloaking device?
It sounds like Kylo Ren’s ship is going to see a fair bit of action in The Last Jedi, which, as we know from its Star Wars Celebration trailer, will definitely be bringing some exciting space battles back to the Saga.
