British actor Jude Law has been cast as a young Albus Dumbledore in the next Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Pottermore announced Law, an Academy Award-nominated actor who most recently appeared as the title character in HBO’s The Young Pope, would don Dumbledore’s robes for the second installment of Fantastic Beasts Wednesday.

Law will portray Dumbledore when he was a Transfiguration teacher at Hogwarts – and, as we know from the first Fantastic Beasts, a professor fond enough of Newt Scamander to argue against his expulsion. (Not to mention a man on a collision course with dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, portrayed by Johnny Depp.)
Filming on the next Fantastic Beasts is scheduled to start this summer. The movie, slated to be the second in a five-part series, is scheduled for release Nov. 16, 2018.
