PHOENIX – Jared Leto is set to star in the Spider-Man spinoff Morbius, based on the Spider-Man villain.
Daniel Espinosa, the director of Safe House, is directing the movie with Avi Arad, Matt Tomach and Lucas Fosters working as producers.
Morbius first came about in 1971. The character had vampire-like traits after trying to cure himself from a blood disease, and ends up battling it out with Spider-Man.
According to Variety, Leto (who played the Joker in Suicide Squad) had been on the fence about working on the project for a while. He was loosely attached and wouldn’t really commit until he knew that the spinoff was headed in the right direction.
There is no set release date yet, but the movie is expected to start production this year.
