PHOENIX – Warner Bros. has hired DC Comics’ first Asian-American director to take over the new Harley Quinn movie.
Cathy Yan will follow in the footsteps of directors like James Wan (Aquaman), Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) and Ava DuVernay (New Gods), as she makes her big-time Hollywood debut.
Yan’s only other directorial project was her feature Dead Pigs, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival Earlier this year. Yan also previously held a job as a reporter for the Wall Street Journal.
The film is said to be based on the Birds of Prey Comics, which brought together some of DC’s fan-favorite females, including Bat Girl, Black Canary, Poison Ivy and Katana.
Margot Robbie will reprise the role of Harley Quinn and also pick up a producer title for the film.
