Celebrate Star Trek anniversary with Google’s interactive doodle

Google has done some amazing things with its “doodle,” the logo for its spartan homepage that sometimes becomes an interactive playground. Today may take the cake, as the Google homepage turns into a USS Enterprise playset that geeks have dreamed of for decades to celebrate the 46th anniversary of Star Trek’s first episode (Sept. 8, 1966.)

Your steadfast Starfleet crew is represented by the letters making up the Google logo, and you can interact with the helm and flirt with Lt. Uhura. (No “O” face jokes, please.)

But the adventure is not limited to the iconic starship’s bridge: You can take the turbolift to the transporter room and beam down to Cestus III to relive Capt. Kirk’s MacGuyver-esque battle with the reptilian Gorn.
