The “young Jedi” story arc begun in last weekend’s “The Gathering” continues Saturday on Star Wars: The Clone Wars. In “A Test of Strength, David Tennant of Doctor Who fame guest stars as the voice of Huyang, a droid who oversees Jedi lightsaber creation. The character will also appear in the next two episodes, “Bound for Rescue” and “A Necessary Strength.”
Check out the scene in the second clip above that captures the magic of the moment when John Hurt’s Mr. Ollivander introduced us to his world of wands in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
“When I heard the Doctor himself, David Tennant, was a fan of Star Wars I knew I had to find a way to get in contact with him to see if he would perform on Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” said Dave Filoni, supervising director of The Clone Wars. “The result was ‘Huyang,’ an ancient droid in the service of the Jedi Order, whose sole task in life has been overseeing the construction of lightsabers. I thought David was perfect for the part and he did not disappoint. He delivered a performance which impressed even the Master himself, George Lucas.”
Also included in the episode is a lightsaber training maneuver called “the Whirlwind of Destiny” that was created by a young fan as part of Hasbro’s “Join the Jedi” contest. The recurring pirate character Hondo Ohnaka returns, and see if you can spot the training remote seen aboard the Millennium Falcon in the original Star Wars as well as in the Jedi Temple in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.
