PHOENIX – When they say teaser trailer… they mean it!
Disney released a new poster as well as a new trailer for their upcoming remake of the classic 1992 animation film Aladdin.
Will Smith, our new genie, was the first to reveal the movie poster on Instagram. The picture depicts the iconic genie lamp resting on top of the rock where it resides inside of the Cave of Wonders. Below the lamp are the words “Choose Wisely” followed by “May.”
Disney released a first look of the movie with a trailer shortly after the poster dropped.
The video is about two minutes long and starts with a beautiful view of the desert before a bird appears and flies with us to the enchanted city of Agrabah. The bird turns out to be a parrot who we can assume is Iago, Jafar’s sidekick. Iago leads us through the night until an ominous voice begins to speak and the mystical lion-shaped Cave of Wonders appears. Here we get our first look at Jafar and of course, Aladdin.
The trailer really does tease! We get a glimpse of Agrabah and a few of the characters featured but it is very brief. Aladdin only has a five-second cameo as he reaches for the lamp before the trailer fades to black.
I don’t know about you guys but I want more!
Disney’s Aladdin follows the story of a young street rat named Aladdin as he meets the beautiful, self-courageous Jasmine and the hilarious, all-powerful Genie who just might hold the key to their future.
The movie is directed by the same man who brought us Sherlock Holmes, Guy Ritchie, and is written by John August as well as Ritchie.
The cast includes Will Smith as our beloved Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as the Sultan, and Numan Acar as Hakim. The movie is also introducing a new character not seen in the original story. Nasim Pedrad is playing Dalia, Princess Jasmine’s free-spirited best friend and confidante.
This is one of the many live-action remakes Disney currently has in production.
The movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 24, 2019.
