Warner Bros. announced today Diane Lane has been cast as Martha Kent, Superman’s adoptive mother in the upcoming Superman: Man of Steel directed by Zack Snyder.
Lane joins Henry Cavill, best known for his role as Charles Brandon in The Tudors, as the Last Son of Krypton himself. Other actors rumored to join the cast are Kevin Costner as Jonathan “Pa” Kent, Viggo Mortensen as General Zod, and, interestingly enough, Lindsay Lohan as…someone. Possibly Zod’s accomplice Ursa.
Superman: Man of Steel is scheduled for release in December 2012. Director Zack Snyder is best known for directing 300, Watchmen and the upcoming and hopefully awesome Sucker Punch, in theaters March 25. Producer Christopher Nolan, of course, is no stranger to the DC Comics universe with his two Batman films under his utility belt and a third on the way.
