Brie Larson takes over the concession stand

PHOENIX – Captain Marvel took the box office by storm its opening weekend.

The film brought in $153 million in the domestic haul and $455 million worldwide, making it the sixth largest opening weekend in history. Among Marvel movies, Captain Marvel landed in second place, next to 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War.

High-scoring numbers weren’t the only historic part about Captain Marvel. It is Marvel’s first film with a solo female lead as well.

Brie Larson, the star of the film, showed her appreciation for fans during the opening weekend, stopping by a New Jersey theater to surprise fans.

She spent her time serving popcorn and pouring sodas before personally thanking fans for coming to see the film.

“I just heard that I was on the cups and popcorn and I wanted to see for myself,” she told the theater audience. Later, she posed for photos with fans.

Captain Marvel arrived nearly a year after Avengers: Infinity War, which teased that the heroine is the most powerful superhero.

Fandango also reported that the film had become the biggest advanced ticket seller since Avengers: Infinity War, surpassing Black Panther.

The high advanced ticket sale numbers have been described as “impressive,” considering Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel’s alter ego) is a relatively unknown character to non-comic readers.
