Even though the live action Green Lantern movie appears to be spinning its wheels as it searches for a cast, there is some positive news on the Lantern front. Warner Brothers recently announced a full-length GL animated feature, entitled “Green Lantern: First Flight”. The film will have Hal Jordan as the ring-slinger charged with protecting Earth and the rest of sector 2814.
Actors Christopher Meloni (Hal Jordan), Michael Madson (Kilowog) and Victor Garber (Sinestro) are among those announced to provide voices for the movie. It is scheduled to be released July 28 and retail for $30 for the double disc special edition or $20 for the bare-bones single disc.
Personally, I’ve always been a bigger fan of Hal Jordan’s replacement Kyle Rayner (or John Stewart, Guy Gardner or any of the other Lanterns actually). I never understood why someone with a ring that could make anything imaginable would use it to make boxing gloves to hit bad guys with. When I saw Kyle use his ring to make giant robots, dinosaurs, and other much cooler constructs, I knew this was a Green Lantern I could get behind. Even if it’s not my choice of Lanterns, I’m still really looking forward to it. DC has been hitting home runs in the animation department for a while now, and this looks to be another solid hit.
