A lawsuit accuses AMC Theatres of printing too many credit card digits on customer receipts, violating a 2003 federal law and potentially putting moviegoers at greater risk of identity theft.
The suit could become a class action after the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals (which includes Arizona) recently rejected a lower federal court judge’s refusal to give it that status.
According to Courthouse News Service, the class sought damages of $100 to $1,000 for each violation — which would cost AMC anywhere from $29 million to $290 million.
