Release date announced for second Fantastic Beasts film

second Fantastic Beasts movie announced

We haven’t even seen the first chapter of Newt Scamander’s adventures in New York yet, but we can already count down to the second installment of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The second Fantastic Beasts installment will open in theaters Nov. 16, 2018, Warner Bros. announced in a statement Wednesday. Like the first film in the series, J.K. Rowling is writing the screenplay and David Yates is directing.

In the first movie, Newt arrives in 1920s-era New York, where he navigates a foreign (in more ways than one) American wizarding landscape and must deal with his suitcase full of magical creatures getting accidentally opened.

“The second Fantastic Beasts movie moves deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt and our other heroes have to decide on their allegiances,” Wednesday’s statement said.

That won’t be the last of Newt’s adventures, either – Rowling has previously said there will be three films in the series.

The first Fantastic Beasts opens Nov. 18. Need another taste of the movie to increase your excitement? Check out the latest trailer, released at Comic Con in late July:
