As expected, the online action game Stargate Resistance has been shut down following the termination of an Arizona company’s license to produce games based on MGM’s Stargate property.
The game’s website also has gone dark and the websites for Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment and its troubled flagship project, the vaporware online roleplaying game Stargate Worlds, have been replaced with a notice that reads:
As we indicated in our previous announcement, as of January 16, 2011, we are unfortunately no longer able to sell or operate Stargate Resistance. We are actively evaluating options for Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, Inc. and its products, and will update you as soon as additional information is available. Thank you for your continued support.
At least this offers some hope for fans of the projects that the work that went into the games may see the light of day in some other, non-Stargate form.
The game’s collapse is the culmination of a chaotic saga of disputes and accusations that literally ripped the Mesa company apart. You can follow my coverage of the many developments here.
