Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide from Wizards of the CoastKnights of the Old Republic from BioWare and LucasArts was one of the best games made for the original Xbox. It was also one of the finest Star Wars tales since the original trilogy.

It had a lackluster sequel — and rumors abound of a forthcoming MMO — but its legacy just got a major boost from two new gaming releases from Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro: The KOTOR Campaign Guide for Wizards’ Star Wars Roleplaying Game Saga Edition and the accompanying collectable miniatures.

Released at Gen Con last week, the campaign guide offers roleplaying statistics and background information on characters, locales, weapons and starships from a time “4,000 years before the Battle of Yavin to a time when Jedi Knights and Sith Lords clashed in galactic conflict. As the galaxy plunges into one war after another, the forces of the Republic, along with their Jedi allies, struggle to protect themselves from hordes of invading Mandalorians, tyrannical Sith lords, and traitorous allies on every front.”

io9 has a good preview of the book with shots of a few interior illustrations, and Wizards, as always, offers a few PDF sneak previews for download. Likewise with the minis.Knights of the Old Republic Sith Marauder miniature from Wizards of the Coast

Coming in September is the Force Unleashed Campaign Guide to tie in with the much-anticipated video game of the same name, and January will see the Clone Wars Campaign Guide covering all things Clone Wars, including the recent CGI movie of the same name and the TV show it will launch this fall. Further down the road, as announced at Gen Con, will be a campaign guide for the era of Dark Horse Comics’ Legacy series, which will detail rules for playing a descendant of a powerful bloodline like the Skywalkers.

Also at Gen Con, Star Wars Roleplaying Game Saga Edition took home four fan awards.

  • Um, WANT.

KOTOR was my favorite video game ever. And I even mostly liked the sequel.

I may have to convince my RPG friends that we need to jump on this.
