Starting tomorrow (Dec. 11) Sony will unlock the beta for its PlayStation Home social gaming community and allow all PS3 users around the world to download and try the service.

Within PlayStation Home, users can create and customize their own avatars and explore a virtual community in real time as they communicate through text or voice chat.

Users can experience minigames, videos and special events along with their friends and form their own clubs with other Home users. The service also allows groups of players to dive together directly into their favorite online games.

Reports say a general launch should come fairly quickly — like, before the end of the year.
