Snoop Dogg breaks the ‘Rock Band’ hip-hop barrier

Gaming, Music, Nintendo, PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360

Several songs from 12-time Grammy Award nominee Snoop Dogg will be added to the Rock Band online music store on Sept. 7, marking the first time a rap artist has been featured in the game’s catalog. (Unless, as KeL points out in the comments below, you count MC Frontalot, who apparently was stuck in the “other” category.)

“I consider myself an OG gamer, and to be chosen as the first hip-hop artist to appear in Rock Band…well, it doesn’t get any better than that, ya dig?!?” Snoop Dogg said in a statement from Harmonix and MTV Games. “I know my fans gonna get down with tha Pound with this one and tha youngsters really gonna realize who started this gamer ish, u hear me?!?”

The tunes include: Beautiful, Drop It Like It’s Hot, Ridin’ In My Chevy, Sensual Seduction, Snoop’s Upside Ya Head, Tha Shiznit, That’s Tha Homie (not available until Sept. 14 in some areas) and Who Am I (What’s My Name)? The songs will cost about $2 each or about $13.50 for the whole litter.
