Get those pre-order prayers ready, 16-bit fans: Nintendo is releasing a Super NES Classic Edition on Sept. 29. The retro HD-compatible unit will include more than 20 pre-installed games, including Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, F-Zero, Donkey Kong Country, and the never-released Star Fox 2.

The Super NES Classic will retail for $79.99 and include the following 21 games:

  • Contra III: The Alien Wars
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • EarthBound
  • Final Fantasy III
  • F-ZERO
  • Kirby Super Star
  • Kirby’s Dream Course
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • Mega Man X
  • Secret of Mana
  • Star Fox
  • Star Fox 2
  • Street Fighter® II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
  • Super Castlevania IV
  • Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
  • Super Mario World
  • Super Metroid
  • Super Punch-Out!!
  • Yoshi’s Island

Because so many of these games are two-player, such as Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Mario Kart, Contra III The Alien Wars and Secret of Mana, Nintendo is including two controllers this time around. (The NES Classic Edition, released last year in criminally limited quantities and then quietly discontinued, only included one controller but more could be purchased separately.)

I’ll be buying it — inventory gods willing — for Final Fantasy III alone, but the chance to play Star Fox 2, and other rarities like Secret of Mana, make the $80 pricetag well worth it. (Also — Super Punch-Out!!, but no Chrono Trigger? Really??)
