Nintendo serves up more of the same in ’09 — literally

Current D&D Campaign Adventures - Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden

Mario Power Tennis from Nintendo

Pokémon fans will have plenty to cheer about in 2009 as Pokémon Platinum makes its U.S. debut March 22 on Nintendo DS.

The rest of us? Well, Nintendo is also digging up a couple of GameCube titles, Mario Power Tennis and Pikmin, adding Wii Remote functionality and slapping “New Play Control!” in front of their names (their exclamation point, believe me — not mine). Other Wii games include Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time from Square-Enix and MADWORLD from Sega.

Other DS titles include Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, (yay, NES ports!) Personal Trainer: Math (Yay, math!) and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (Yay, next-gen console environments crammed onto a DS cart!).

To be fair, I’ll probably pick up Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. It’s a “revamped and reimagined version of the NES classic, featuring touch-screen controls. Players with a broadband Internet connection can enjoy worldwide battles over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, Nintendo’s online gaming service.” I never played the original but that’s one of the nice things about these re-releases for the DS and Wii Virtual Console — discovering games you may have missed the first time around.

Below is a partial and tentative list of upcoming Wii and DS games, listed alphabetically by publisher. But I’m still waiting for word on the next big Zelda or Mario.
