Today a new feature debuts: the NerdWord. On a semi-regular basis you’ll see words from geek culture defined, explained and sometimes even illustrated.
It won’t be a daily thing, or a weekly thing, but probably something in between.
If you have suggestions or requests for NerdWord, shoot me an e-mail or leave a comment below!
And now, the first NerdWord:
Sandbox — A video game that has an open-ended, nonlinear style of play
Examples: The Sims, various MMORPGs (like World of Warcraft, pictured below) and combat games that offer a “god mode” allowing players to explore the virtual environment unmolested
So, when you hear a gamer talking about “the sandbox,” chances are they are referring to a digital playground and not the one with buckets and shovels. But both kinds often hide nasty surprises.
