Scientists have found that intelligent people are around 30% more likely to have genes that indicate they may need glasses to improve their eyesight – which is something you can proudly tell friends if they tease you about wearing glasses at your next group gaming session. These days, most gaming will probably be undertaken online rather than in person, but even at home, damage can be suffered by glasses that are dirty or poorly taken care of. Visiting an optometrist and spending hundreds of dollars can be a real bugbear when you prefer to spend your savings on a new game or gaming system, so get the most out of your pair by following a few basic maintenance tips.

Cleaning Your Glasses Well

It is important to clean your glasses well if you want to avoid them getting scratched and damaged. If you are a serious gamer, then your glasses will probably be an accessory you wear all day, and frequent cleaning will keep the crystals in optimal condition. The best way to clean glasses is to place them under warm running water and to place a tiny drop of dishwashing detergent on your fingers. Make a sudsy solution, and run your fingers by the glass. If you have time, allow the glasses to dry on their own. Otherwise, use a gentle soft cotton cloth to dry them. Never use paper towel or toilet paper to dry glasses, since these can contain hard fibers that can scratch glass. Clean glasses frequently during pandemic times, since viruses can settle on the glass, nosepad, eyeglass bars and temples. Wash them as soon as you get home, and do not blow on the frames, since this could spread bacteria. Viruses can live on glasses for up to four days, as found in a study published in The Journal of Hospital Infection, which is a great reason to be extra assiduous with cleaning.

Invest In A Good Case

Glasses can easily get left on sofas and chairs, and become deformed or bent if something heavy is placed on top of them, and they can also easily fall out of your bag or knapsack when you are catching transport to the next gaming tournament. Invest in a good (preferably hard) case, which will enable glasses to travel safely as you carry out your day-to-day tasks. When relaxing at home, make it a point to always leave your glasses in the same place (and in their case) to avoid damage.

Take A Cleaning Set With You On The Go

You may not always have access to running water and soap when you are gaming in a public or outdoor zone. Dust, fog, and other substances can settle on your glasses, wresting from your vision and potentially affecting your ability to clearly see the events happening on your screen. Bring a fast cleaning kit with you, which includes a microfiber cloth and a dedicated cleaning spray for glasses. You can also buy individual packets of wet towels, also specifically made to clean glasses. These can be a real lifesaver when you are driving or when you have an important meeting and you want to look sharp and professional.

If you treat your glasses well, they can last for many years, enabling you to enjoy the best gaming experience possible. Doing so involves cleaning them regularly with the right technique and storing them in a quality case to avoid deformation. You should also bring a small kit with you that contains items you need to clean your glasses in case they get dirty while you are away from home.
